So I've decided to chronicle my rookie season playing semi-professional roller hockey for the Lemoyne Lunatics of the Professional Inline Hockey Association.
After making it through tryouts and being named to the team, I found myself spending a ton of money to play, I had to buy a new helmet, new jerseys and pay for league fees. But oh how it was worth it.
My first game was on November 15th and I can remember walking into the rink, suit, tie and all...feeling a bit nervous but also feeling confident. I had just injured my ankle and wasn't even sure that I would be able to play 100% but nothing was going to keep me from playing in my first game.
I first stepped on the rink for warm ups with the rest of my team and sniped a corner in my first warm up shot, I can remember thinking to myself "this is going to be a good night". The game started and my first few shifts were uneventful, perhaps a bit of nerves working themselves out. Then it happened, I got a great breakout pass from my teammate and shot on net and it went in, I felt all the pressure in the world leave my shoulders and we eventually went on to win the game 7-3 as well as the next game 9-0. I only had 1 goal in both those games but I had some great opportunities especially in my first home games of my career.
I play next on December 19th and 20th and will blog a short time after that.
